I. Working principle

The hydraulic tail pump is essentially a small gear pump or plunger pump. Its working principle is the same as that of a conventional hydraulic pump. It sucks and discharges oil based on the periodic change of the sealed volume:

1. It is directly driven by the engine through the transmission shaft (or indirectly driven by the gearbox) and rotates with the engine;

3. After the oil is brought into the pressure chamber, the volume is reduced and pressurized, and low-pressure or medium-pressure hydraulic oil (pressure is usually lower than that of the main pump, generally 2-10MPa) is output, and it is transported to the components that need auxiliary power through pipelines.

1. Driving auxiliary devices: providing power for the auxiliary systems of construction machinery, such as:
- Hydraulic steering system: driving the steering cylinder to achieve body steering (especially steering assistance for small equipment);
- Braking system: providing pressure oil for the hydraulic brake valve to achieve driving or parking brake;
- Other auxiliary mechanisms: such as bucket fine-tuning, bulldozer action, hydraulic oil cooling fan drive, etc.
2. Supplementing the main pump function: when the main pump focuses on driving large-load actuators (such as booms and arm cylinders), the tail pump is responsible for sharing light-load auxiliary actions to avoid overloading the main pump and improve system efficiency.
3. Simplifying the system structure: as an independent auxiliary power source, the tail pump can supply oil to specific low-pressure components alone without the need to divide oil from the main oil circuit, reducing the complexity of the main system pipeline and reducing energy loss.

In short, the hydraulic tail pump is the "auxiliary power provider" of small construction machinery, mainly providing hydraulic power for non-core but necessary auxiliary actions to ensure the coordinated operation of the whole machine function.
